Position Summary
The Membership Coordinator is responsible for growing, engaging, and retaining the Morgan County Democratic Party’s paid membership program.
This position serves as the primary champion of membership within the organization, ensuring that supporters understand the value of becoming members and are consistently given opportunities to enroll.
Because membership is voluntary, the Membership Coordinator must actively recruit new members rather than simply waiting for people to sign up. The Coordinator builds a culture in which volunteers, supporters, event attendees, Democratic voters, candidates, precinct leaders, and other members of the community are regularly invited to financially support the Party through monthly membership.
The Membership Coordinator also ensures that members receive the benefits and recognition associated with membership, including membership cards, special events, giveaways, discounts at eligible Party events and lunches, and other benefits established by the Party.
Key Responsibilities
Membership Recruitment
- Proactively recruit new monthly members from volunteers, supporters, event attendees, Democratic voters, donors, and members of the community.
- Ensure membership is consistently promoted at meetings, events, volunteer activities, fundraisers, trainings, Democratic lunches, and other Party functions.
- Make direct, positive membership asks whenever appropriate.
- Develop and coordinate membership drives, enrollment goals, renewal campaigns, promotional initiatives, and other recruitment strategies.
- Create and maintain a membership pipeline by identifying engaged supporters who are not yet members.
- Follow up with prospective members after meetings, volunteer activities, events, or other interactions and provide a simple path to enrollment.
Member On-boarding & Engagement
- Welcome new members and introduce them to the Party.
- Explain membership benefits and opportunities for involvement.
- Coordinate or distribute membership cards, welcome materials, and other membership resources.
- Encourage members to become active participants in Party activities.
- Maintain regular communication with members to encourage continued engagement.
- Recognize and thank members for their ongoing support.
- Develop strategies to improve member retention and reduce cancellations or lapses.
Membership Benefits
- Coordinate membership cards and benefit fulfillment.
- Help organize member-only events and special opportunities.
- Coordinate discounts offered at designated Party lunches, fundraisers, or other events.
- Assist with giveaways, recognition programs, and other membership incentives approved by Party leadership.
- Regularly communicate the value of membership and how recurring contributions strengthen the local Democratic Party.
Administration & Record-keeping
- Maintain accurate and confidential membership records.
- Track active members, new enrollments, cancellations, recurring memberships, and benefit fulfillment.
- Ensure membership information is securely maintained and used only for authorized Party purposes.
- Coordinate membership records with the Treasurer and other authorized Party officers.
Reporting & Planning
- Monitor membership growth, recruitment activity, retention rates, recurring revenue, and progress toward established goals.
- Prepare regular membership reports for Party leadership and the Executive Committee.
- Develop annual membership recruitment plans and recommend strategies for continued growth.
- Identify trends, challenges, and opportunities to improve membership performance.
Collaboration
- Work closely with Party officers, precinct leaders, committee chairs, candidates, communications volunteers, and event organizers to integrate membership recruitment into Party activities.
- Assist with creating membership materials including:
- Talking points
- Flyers
- QR codes
- Event signage
- Email campaigns
- Social media content
- Membership brochures
- Enrollment instructions
- Staff membership tables or designated membership areas at Party events when appropriate.
- Recruit and coordinate volunteers to assist with membership outreach and enrollment efforts.
